New on WMAG: Selling Our House

April 3, 2010

Selling your house quicklyWho knew how hard it would be to get my house ready to sell? I figured it would be a pain, but MAN. It is hard. Fortunately, I had lots of help. And we were lucky enough to sell it in a weekend! I shared a glimpse of my past few weeks mired in all things real estate over on my Working Moms Against Guilt blog. Read the post here.

Blogging about Savings for ING Direct

March 12, 2010

When I saw that ING Direct was looking for a few good customers to blog for them, I eagerly applied for the gig.

I was both confident and uncertain of my chances at getting picked. I’ve been blogging for years and have worked with all kinds of brands and companies looking to connect with people online. I’ve also been a loyal ING Direct customer  since 2004. But I can’t call myself any kind of savings guru. I’ve made my share of financial mistakes. Who am I to be the voice of We, the Savers: Official Blog of Savers Everywhere?

Well, what do you know? They liked me! They really liked me! I found out this week that ING Direct selected me as one of their customer bloggers. I’ll be paid (via my ING savings account, naturally) to write monthly posts about my savings successes and mishaps through the year.

Having recently started my own business and added a second child into the mix, I have plenty of material. On top of that, we’re getting ready to sell our house and move into a bigger one. I know you’re probably thinking, Is there any room for savings with all that going on? That’s what I’m going to find out — and share with the world.

Thanks, ING Direct! Happy to join your merry band of customer-bloggers.

New on Mom Corps Cincy: Chamber Programs for Women

February 15, 2010

As the social media manager for Mom Corps Cincinnati — a staffing and recruiting firm that specializes in flexible work — I’ve had the pleasure of attending several local chamber of commerce events. I enjoyed seeing women business owners recognized for their achievements at the Cincinnati Chamber’s WE Celebrate Awards ceremony last fall. And just a few weeks ago, I got to be part of the launch of the Northern Kentucky Chamber’s Women’s Initiative (a sold-out event).

Both the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky chambers have robust programs that help professional women develop their careers, meet and network with other women, and build their businesses. For Mom Corps Cincinnati’s blog, I wrote a post about what these programs entail and how local professional women can benefit. Read the entire post here.

Mason Metu Featured Blogger

February 10, 2010

I’m always amazed at how gracious and generous bloggers can be. So many bloggy folks I’ve met online or in real life give props to other bloggers through their various online outlets. It’s a great way to “pay it forward” and spread the love. Example:  Just this week, one of my fellow Family Friendly Cincinnati bloggers, Kristin Goecke, made me the February “featured blogger” on her blog, MasonMetu. Thanks, Kristin! I am honored and grateful.

New on WMAG: Advice for New Mom’s Business Travel

February 10, 2010

One of the big reasons I cofounded Working Moms Against Guilt back in 2006 was to help other moms like me: freshly back to work with a tiny, totally dependent infant at home, and desperately seeking help, advice, reassurance. So I didn’t hesitate to post our reader’ Marty’s question about how to handle business trips as she heads back to work with her 8-week-old baby at home. It’s so awesome to have blog readers who can relate and reach out to help! Read the post (and share advice, if you have it) here.

My First Post on Ohio Moms Blog

February 6, 2010

I recently joined the new Ohio Moms Blog, the latest addition to a network of regional blogs called the Silicon Valley Moms Group. Here’s a little more info on OMB:

The Ohio Moms Blog is written by a collaborative group of mothers living or working in Ohio. Ohio might get played like some quaint state stuck in yesteryear but these moms will tell you that it’s more than small towns and corn fields. Ohio is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, industrial cities, progressive arts-centric historic communities, sports teams with devoted fans, the largest college campus in the country and yes, the down home Main Streets where neighbors don’t need to lock their doors. This diverse group of Ohio Moms Blog contributors will show you the real Ohio, casting off the stereotypes, once and for all.

I’m excited to be part of this very diverse and talented group of ladies. For my very first post on Ohio Moms Blog, I chose to talk about my brilliant new business idea. Inspiration struck when I was nursing my husband back to health (he had a Man Cold). Check out the post to see what I believe is the next big thing in health care: Man Cold Recovery Centers. I am warning you, it may be too close to the truth to be funny. Kind of like The Office. But it might make you smile.

Gearing Up for BlissDom

February 3, 2010

Blissdom Conference ~ Nashville ~ February 4-6 2010I’ve gone to several conferences especially for bloggers in the past few years, but this weekend will be my first one as a “free agent.”

BlissDom is one of a growing number of mega-meetups for women who love to blog and meet other bloggers. I am so excited to spend three days immersed in a swirl of positivity, support, networking and of course, the latest trends in blogs and social media. This will be a real opportunity for me to grow my skill set, meet some cool new women and marketers in the space, and have fun! All with no strings attached to an employer, and with no limits to the possibilities of new work, clients and opportunities.

Last week, I wrote about prepping for BlissDom on my blog, Working Moms Against Guilt. When BlissDom organizer and founder Alli Worthington discovered what my first BlissDom conference inspired (a baby!), she kindly featured my post on the conference website. Is there any sphere more supportive of women and mothers than the blogosphere? I love it!
