Content strategists often jokingly refer to our day-to-day work as “feeding the beast.” Email lists, social networks, search engines … they all want the latest, greatest content, and they want it now. When I led a network of content creators for the tech startup Ahalogy, our hungry beast was Pinterest. Brands and content creators both struggled to stay on top of content trends and timing for the wildly popular visual discovery platform.
Drawing on my previous experience as a magazine editor, I suggested we use the tried and true strategy of editorial calendar planning. But at Ahalogy, we could give our calendar extra “juice” through our Pinterest trend data. Knowing when evergreen topics peaked and waned in their Pinterest popularity, we created the Ahalogy Editorial Calendar, a resource for brands and bloggers to forecast and plan their content based on Pinterest trends, holidays, and seasonal events.
